Mommy's new car

Mommy is very exciting because Daddy went out and got her new car on Saturday. Because Mommy was sick yesterday, she didn't get to drive it until Sunday morning, but she really loves it. It looks like the big sister to her old car. So far it looks like it will work very well for our growing family; we will be picking up grandpa and grandma this afternoon for a Father's Day outing to Summer Shack in it!

Despite the lack of pics, Sophie has been very busy. She got to go to Evan's very exciting 4th birthday party, which included a trip to a local fire department. She got to pretend to drive the truck and even accidentally shut the garage door on several children and 2 firemen (luckily, no one got hurt).

Sophie has also started riding her tricycle, which Daddy excitedly bought her a few weeks ago. Almost everyday, she gets on her trike and has Daddy push her around the neighborhood. She got a Kettrike Air-Navigator TM Bike.

She also got a little pink helmet to wear while she rides it and a little bell she just needs to turn in order for it to ring. Hunter also is very excited by the trike since if both Mommy and Daddy are home, Hunter gets to go for a walk during all of Sophie's tricycle rides. Suffice to say, Hunter now equates the word "tricycle" with "walk"

This past week, Sophie got to see Daddy and his band (the Usual Suspects) perform at Kimball Farm's Cruise Night event. She really liked it. She danced for an entire set (nearly 45 minutes)! She also liked the cars. Unfortunately, Mommy tried to take Sophie to an animal display that was also there. And, Sophie, surprisingly, got upset. Mommy thinks it may have been something about the tent the display was in since Sophie NEVER turns down the chance to see animals! The night ended very well, with Mommy and Sophie sharing a giant butter pecan ice cream. Sophie kept saying "Mmm, yummy, is good..."

Uncle Mike graduates!

This past weekend, Sophie and Mommy and Daddy got to go to Washington, D.C. to watch Uncle Mike(s) graduate from GWU. We were all very proud of Uncle Mike(s). Since we were in D.C., we decided to do some site seeing. First, we spent Friday going to the Smithsonian Museum's Museum of American History. There, Mommy got to almost fulfill a lifelong dream (granted she only developed this dream a few hyears ago, but life long nonetheless) of meeting Stephen Colbert.

Then, Sophie got to pay hommage to one of her idols who upon seeing she reverently called in a hushed whisper "the Grouch"....

On Saturday, Mommy and Daddy made two attempts to see the White House with Sophie. The first attempt ended with a sudden trip to a coffee shop to avoid the rain. There, Sophie got to enjoy a fine breakfast of water and chocolate-glazed donut. Mommy and Daddy and Sophie eventually made it to the White House later in the afternoon...but almost didn't make it to dinner because Mommy and Daddy like walking too much and tend to loose track of time. Whoops!

(There is currently a dirth of photographic evidence of Uncle Mike's Sunday overall school graduation, which was truly awesome. Since it was rainy, Sophie and Daddy checked out the Smithsonian museum of Air and Space as well as the Natural History museum - see below - Mommy went to the graduation with Grams, Gramps and Aunt Allison. It was on the National Mall, between the Capital building and the Washington monument....Mommy is officially jealous of Uncle Mike)

Not a very exciting week at the Miranda household. We all managed to go to work/daycare and not come down with swine flu, the common cold, etc... However, because we did not know what to do this weekend, Mommy and Daddy decided to put their zoo membership to good use and check out the Stoneham zoo. Mommy did not take many pics since Sophie and Mommy were there only a few weeks ago, but she did get some nice ones of Sophie and (what Mommy estimated to be a juvenile) reindeer's rear end.

Butterflies and New Rochelle, oh my!

Sophie was very busy last week (4/18 - 4/25). First, she got to go to one of her favorite places, the Butterfly Place and watch lots of "futterflies" fly around. It was very hot and humid in the Butterfly Place, so she decided enough was enough after 10 minutes, even though she really, really liked the futterflies. Afterwards, she got to watch some local elementary school kids place soccer. She really liked that and looks forward to her future as a soccer player.

The following day, Mommy and Sophie drove down to New Rochelle all by themselves! They spent lots of time with Grams, Aunt Allison and Cousin Naomi. They had lots of fun having playdates, going to a chinese/japanese restaurant, attending a gym class and going to a music class. What Sophie liked best, though, was hugging her Naomi. She also really liked that Mommy gave up on trying to get her to sleep in the crib and let Sophie sleep with her instead. Mommy still has bruises from all the kicking, especially on her arms for some weird reason.



The following Saturday, Sophie and Daddy went to a really awesome Sheep Shearing festival in Waltham, MA. They got to see doggies practice herding sheep, lots of sheep "baaing", Sophie got to pet a llama, and all sorts of cool stuff. When Mommy came home from teaching college that day, she was surprised to find a very sleepy Sophie who did not want to wake-up until 6pm from her nap (started at 2-ish)!!!

This past week started off great! Mommy had a day off for work, so she tried to take Sophie to the aquarium. After the GPS failed to get Mommy to the aquarium and Mommy was tired of driving around Boston in the same circles, Mommy and Sophie instead went to the zoo! Sophie had a great time! She saw lots of llamas (which Daddy hates), flamingos (which we're pretty sure Daddy hates), Hawks (Daddy definitely hates) and then also jaguars, coyotes, mountain lions and monkeys! Sophie especially liked climbing up and down some stairs to see the jaguar better. She met another little girl, named Abby, who also really liked the stairs.

After the zoo, Mommy and Sophie went to Friendly's. Sophie was super good, waiting in-line for a table for 20 minutes and then letting Mommy sit with her while she colored. She greatly enjoyed eating lots of french fries and refusing all other food.

Unfortunately, later that night, Sophie developed a fever and spent the rest of the week ill. But, she got to see lots of her Papa, who came over to take care of Sophie while Mommy and Daddy had to go to work. She now asks for Papa or Gam-pah constantly.

Sophie is excited about the coming week though. She is going down to NY to see Aunt Allison, Cousin Naomi and Grams. She may even see Uncle Alan. It will be mostly a girls weekend though since Daddy has to stay up in Chelmsford with all the animals. Sophie is hoping to buy some shoes and do other girlie things...
